Kofi Annan, Former UN Chief Dies At 80


 Kofi Atta Annan was a Ghanaian Diplomat who was the Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006. Annan was a recipient of the  2001 Nobel Peace Prize. He established a foundation called “Kofi Annan Foundation”. He was during his life time the chairman of an international organization known as “The Elders”, which was founded by Nelson Mandela.

KOFI ANNAN

Kofi became the  U.N. Secretary General from 1996 to December 2006. He had worked in different sectors in the same organisation.

After serving for 10 years at UN, Annan served as the UN special envoy for Syria, leading efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Iraq War and the rapid spread of HIV/AIDs.

Kofi Annan was married to two separate wives. He married his first wife, Titi Alakija, from 1965 to 1983. The marriage collapsed which led to his second marriage to Nane Maria Lagergren in 1984.

The former U.N secretary-general was confirmed dead today 18th, August 2018 by his Foundation. Kofi was said to have died a peaceful death in the early hours of today at an hospital in Bern, Switzerland. His death was pronounced with “immerse sadness” by his family, friends and members of his foundation.

He is survived by his wife, Nane and three children, Kojo, Ama and Nina.
